What?: (Written on Sunday)

Wow, on a scale of one to ten, it's a million nice to have a computer from home to use when you're away.

JAPAN!

Yeah, um, I'm writing this as proto-bloggage, in the hope that I can post it up at some point in the week. I say proto-bloggage because I'm presently sat in the departure lounge in Narita waiting for my flight for Fukuoka to board. Not a lot else to do right now, I've bought Calpis, completely failed in my attempt to meet Jenny here. Stupid telephones ruining my attempts to actually contact people. o_0 And for that I am very sorry, btw, particularly since I probably ruined your day.

Anyway. Japan. o_0 I think I may have been suffering from "have not slept for too long/feeling poorly/confused" far too much when I arrived. I got in to immigration and just wanted to keel over, preferably at home, in my bed. Not for any reason other than those mentioned above, though.

Well, no, actually, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. The flight might explain a bit of the confusion at least. ^_^;; I had a stop in Frankfurt, and all I can say is thank goodness I speak German (albeit crappily). o_0 Otherwise it would have been a very long, very dull trip. The reason for this was my acquisition of New Japanese Friends. Ayako-san and her mum Setsuko-san. ^____^ They'd been on holiday in Germany - neither of them spoke English but they were very fluent in German! So I spent the flight talking to them (Ayako-san was enthusing about the Studio Ghibli museum because I was wearing my Totoro t-shirt!) and now I've been invited to visit them next time I'm in Tokyo. ^______^ This makes me very happy since hopefully I'll know a bit more Japanese when I come back here. Although, I have to admit, I was so chuffed when Setsuko-san said that she was impressed with my Japanese accent. I imagine that means I'm understandable then! ^_____^ It's true what the guide books say about Japanese people and foreigners who try to speak the language - they're always so happy about it!

(On a sidenote, I'm amazed at how much the brain can recall when you need it. I thought I'd forgotten a great deal of my German these days, and I remembered bits of Japanese I've barely used before. ^___^;;; Brains are great. In a non-offal/zombie context.)

So yes, that gets us up to arriving here. Oh no it doesn't! Katy you forget your amazing viewing on the plane! Oh man I was so happy when I was sat watching the little music video compilation show on the aeroplane. THEY HAD RIP SLYME ON! ^_______^ Since I was using Galaxy as my wake-up song for a lot of the summer, it amused me more than I can say to hear it on the plane. ^____^ And everyone ought to watch Kingdom of Heaven, because it's surprisingly good. It's Ridley Scott, I'm a Ridley Scott fangirl. Shut up. I'm not at all a fan of the Crusades, however, and the film does a wonderfully even-handed version of a very bad time period. o_0

Oooh, looks like we might be called for boarding soon. More bloggage to come!

What?: *groans*

I haven't blogged for ages, I know. And you'd think I had more time now because I'd left work, but no. I have a stupid amount of work to get done before I go to Japan (in two weeks' time now >_<) and a few minor crises to get through in the meantime. o_0

Anyway, trying not to think about money, The past few weeks have involved, ummm, cats, I think. Liz's cats, Maggie's cats, everybody's cats. @_@ I don't suppose it's a subject I need to go very far in to, because a chunk of the readership already witness what happened at Lizzu's. ^_^;;; I love cats, they don't love me. But that aside, I had a really good time at Liz's house, remembering how much I love both Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit (which may, in fact, be the only thing in the whole wide world I'm actually good at, I'd concluded).

So being out of work is more fun than being in, but it does make the whole "leaving the country for a year" thing all the more prominent and/or stressful. Yesterday was a nice break, going back to Oxford. I took a group of people from work on a tour round the city, which was made a million times more pleasant by the fact that the porter at Queen's let me back in to college to show people round. They were all amused to be allowed into a place with a militant "NO TOURISTS!" attitude.

*headdesk* I keep trying to think of things to say that aren't really depressing. @_@ Trying to blog when you've got a honking great problem preying on your mind is never a good idea, but I'd got to the point where if I spent any more time ignoring it and playing Civ III today, I was actually not going to be able to sleep for the little orange footsoldiers marching around in my brain.

Well hey, with any luck I'll be in Fukuoka with D and Liz this time in a fortnight.

*crawls back in corner and has Charlie and the Chocolate factory glee*

I have to catch up on the week, don't I? Funnily enough, Moo and I went to the cinema this evening. A lo did we enjoy ourselves. I want Willy Wonka in a little box. Yes he's creepy but frankly it's endearing in him.

Thursday was fun. We had "Take My Hamster to Work" day. ^___________^ And I did, as you may have guessed, take Humberto in to work. Why? Because my boss wanted to see what her parrots would do when they saw a new animal. ^______^ Diana was scared stupid, Precious took one look at him and squawked "Want some?", his usual remark when the boss offers him food. ^__^;;;

She has got some explaning to do, following last weekend. Not only am I addicted to making Scoubidous, but now I'm playing Neopets and I've just bought a new Tamagotchi. We are actually seven year olds, you know that? o_0

Now I have to go and play the Meepits game.

Yeah alright, bloggage. Frankly it's not even that I don't have anything interesting bloggagable to write about, it's just that between these things and work I'm left with scant hours to do anything remotely writing-related.

Err, yeah. Oh stuff it, this isn't going to have any kind of structure anyway, so in summary, Castlevania : Lament of Innocence is the campness on wheels, and also awesome. The Killers rock my proverbial world for having made a popular music album I actually want to play. I fangirl Andy, You're a Star in epic amounts for no apparent reason.

Anyone who was in London last weekend will at least know more about the Lament of Innocence fangirlism, and anyone who wasn't had a lucky escape.

And yeah, London. London and LIZZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! *weeps uncontrollably* WHY DID YOU HAVE TO LEAVE ME FOR A WHOLE YEAR?!?! Lizzus were squished, fun was had, huge amounts of crap were watched. My personal highlights included my new shame-lacking low of trying desparately to get the sales assistant at Forbidden Planet to the let me buy the enormous poster of Morrigan from Darkstalkers they had on display. Would they let me? No. -_- But the nice lady told me I could always email Capcom and see if they'd give me one. So I did. o_0

Also the dvdage. Oh the dvdage. My young brain had forgotten why we hated the Doctor Who movie, but noooo, she had to remind us. o_0 IT BURNS, JANE, IT BURNS! I don't care how small and cute Señor McGann may be, IT BURNS!

We do, however, forgive Jane for being the provider of Super Friendsy crack. I love the Super Friends, it's so wrong. It's like everything that you hate to love about DC comics, times a million. So. Good.

And now you've had bloggage so I'm going to go back to making pictures.

What?: Itaiiiiiii -_-

So most people have visited my house, haven't they? And they know it's on a reeeeally steep hill (at least the top of the hill is really steep, anyway). Most of the time this is, indeed, a fine thing. Apart from this morning when I took my bike out of the drive, rolled down to the bottom of the road, pressed on my brakes for the corner, and got nothing.

...nothing apart from a face full of bicycle and hedge. Thank God I had a brief second to think "%$£^! HEDGE! BETTER LANDING PLACE THAN WALL OR CAR!! >_<" It still hurt. -_- I hopped around dazed for a few minutes afterwards, in which time a nice lady stopped in her car to ask if I was ok, then dragged my bike back up the hill, ran in the house and just cried. >_< I hate delayed shock like that. It suddenly struck me that I'd been really scared and moderately whipped up. >_< It's the most horrible feeling when you *know* something painful is going to happen in the next few seconds and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. >_<

So that set the tone for the rest of my crappy day. >_<

Time: 11:10 p.m.
What?: Alright, this is going to be long @_@

I just haven't really felt like blogging recently, more than likely because of all the things that have happened, but hey, these things have to get covered eventually, I suppose.

Starting, urmm, a week ago now. I think everyone who reads this knows about the stuff that's been happening with my younger sister over the past year, and that came to a head this week. And, you know, it's been a shock and it's going to be something it'll certainly take her a long time to recover from, but we all still love her for taking it so excruciatingly well.

If you managed to avoid that whole debacle, lucky you, frankly. @_@ L was unlucky enough to get involved with a very, very unpleasant creature who got himself arrest and put in prison on remand for rape. Thank God, not against my sister. He was tried the week before this, and found guilty. Which wouldn't have been as much of a surprise if he hadn't neglected to tell us about his some 20 previous convictions for more absolutely disgusting crimes. It scares all of us to think that someone so wicked had been able to come close to our family, as you can imagine.

Writing about this does make it seem a bit like a tv drama, and I suspect one day L, if not all of us, will look back on it and wonder how on earth it happened. Suffice to say we never, ever wish to hear from the man again. There's something utterly despicable about anyone who can act in that way and then continue to deceive those around them.

And that would be more than enough to destroy my faith in humanity, but for the fact that I know some absolutely awesome examples of human beings, (chiefly, y'know, y'all,) two of whom traipsed all the way up t'north to spend the weekend with me, maternal and sibling units. Which was so. freakin'. appreciated. ^_____^ What ensued was totally the best weekend of escapism I've had in ages, and I hope it was enjoyed by all everyone else. Burning things in the garden, cinema to see MADAGASCAR (Jane and I totally won the cinema. Everyone _else_ went to see War of the Worlds. Did they get poo-flinging monkeys and psychotic penguins? No, no they didn't. And that's why we won.). Chinese restuarant, Team America drinking game, sleep, fruit picking. ^_____^

The week at work went...crappily, as usual, so we'll gloss over that. Friday was a beautiful thing because we drones were left leaderless all day. And the mice did play and buy ice cream and get considerable amounts of work done. Yeah, figure that one out.

In the scant few hours not spent down the laser mine, I have been a) enjoying too much King of Fighters/CVS2, b) re-enjoying DMC3 for the millionth time c) adoring yet more Murakami. This week's victims were Dance Dance Dance and Norwegian Wood. DDD is possibly my favourite Murakami books I've read so far, though I do have a huuuuge stack of them I ordered from Amazon now. ^_____^ Incidentally, if anyone knows where I can get a cheap copy of Kafka on the Shore I'd appreciate it.

Ok, no more Murakami fangirlism for the moment. Continuing my series of events, last night was fun since work-friend Maggie dragged me over to her house to play with her nogs and bats and generally have fun. ^_____^ And lo did all those things happen. We sat outside and counted bats coming out of her loft. It was great. ^____^

I really need to get to sleep soon, however. I'm knackered.

What?: I'm thinking...

...of making a sign to put over the door at work. Ooh, I don't know, "Abandon hope all ye who enter here"?

Yes I had a fun day today. I'm going to have to start counting the seconds until I leave, because I've done the days, hours and minutes already. But hey, screw that, I'm not at work right now, and frankly I don't want to think of the joy that awaits eleven hours from now.

In the happy hours of the day, that is to say those when I am not at work, the few that they are, I have taken up residence in the conservatory. We have a surplus of televisions for no aparent reason, which means that I now have a nice widescreen to attach to my Dreamcast. And the weather has been beautiful the last few days, so short of sitting in the garden with said appliances, the conservatory is the best place to be. No, in fact it's better than the garden. I have a sofa to sit on and considerably less pollen, but all the sunny goodness of actual sunshine.

For no apparent reason I am back on Dreamcast games. Perhaps I'm fed up of just how much time FFX-2 was sucking out of my life like the vampiric beast it is. Anyway, I'm utterly, utterly ashamed to say that this past weekend I've become addicted to Capcom vs SNK 2. It hurts me so much. @_@ I even went out and bought a copy of King of Fighters 2001 because I need the shiny SNK crack. I have no logical explanation for this, I don't even like most 2D fighting games. BUT KING OF FIGHTERS HAS THE PRETTIES! andyesbythisidomeanioriandk'. IF I HAD WEBSPACE YOU WOULD HAVE PRETTIES TOO!! >_<
